This site Hertha.com has been running since April 9, 1997. It has undergone many changes since then, starting first as a webpage, then a blog and now this portal onto the various content I offer. The focus of the site has evolved to become a record of travels of lands, photography and may be life.
My first camera was a Kodak Brownie. When I was about 10 years old my Grandfather -- who was a fairly accomplished amateur photographer -- bought me a fixed lens Minolta Rangefinder. It was my first and only 35mm film camera. I used it until my early 20's when I adopted my Grandfather's Rolleiflex. As my daughter's accomplishments in rhythmic gymnastics evolved to Team Canada and international competition, I moved to video. In 2006, after some prodding, I tried digital. While most of my photography is now digital I continue to use film in both medium and large format cameras.
While travel photography represents much of my work, my portfolio is growing to include other areas including architectural photography, landscapes, cityscapes, and conceptual. I periodically focus study on specific areas of interest, having explored Pictorialism, Chinese Landscapes, among others.
