Linda and I  spent much of our second day walking the Ramparts of the city. At sunset we were on the western wall. 

We stayed in a little hotel, Le Logis des Remparts.  Our room was small, but clean.  The location was ideal, it had a little patio garden where we took breakfast and lunch. 

The fortifications are impressive and their mass demands immediate attention.  But after that one can notice the city inside these walls. 

Carcassonne is in two parts: the lower city, newer relatively speaking, and the fortified city, which is where we stayed.  In side the city the fortifications are quite something:
